Owner/Operator FAQs
What’s the benefit of offering rental insurance products as an operator?
Offering liability and physical damage coverage through RCP allows you to:
- Expand your customer base by renting to individuals who may not meet your standard insurance requirements. RCP’s line up of rental insurance products, uninsured or underinsured customers can qualify by selecting the appropriate coverage at the start of the rental.
- Protect your fleet policy by redirecting qualifying losses to a third-party, reducing claims against your own fleet policy.
- Increase your rental revenue and profitability – without having to add more vehicles to your fleet.
Why would my customer be interested in rental insurance products?
These products offer real value by helping renters avoid financial loss after an accident. If they have personal auto insurance, the product coverage can help avoid filing a claim. If they’re uninsured, it offers a safeguard against significant out-of-pocket costs.
It’s added protection and peace of mind for the entire rental period.
Are rental insurance products still valid if the vehicle leaves the operator’s state?
Yes. RCP’s line up of rental insurance products follow the rental vehicle – even when it’s driven outside the state.
(NOTE: Certain restrictions apply, including travel outside the U.S. (e.g. Canada or Mexico.)
Can I add rental insurance after the rental period has already started?
No. Rental insurance must be purchased at the beginning of the rental period. Coverage cannot be added once the rental period has started.
Everyday Renters FAQs
What’s the benefit of purchasing rental insurance products for my next rental?
Rental insurance coverage helps protect you from unexpected costs after an accident. It may prevent a claim against your personal auto policy or a large out-of-pocket expense if you’re uninsured.
It’s a simple way to protect your finances and gain peace of mind for the entire rental period.
If I already have coverage on through my personal auto policy, why would I still need rental insurance products?
Rental insurance products provide primary coverage which means they respond first if there’s a claim. That includes cost of repairs to the rental vehicle due to a collision with another vehicle, someone else’s property or injuries to others involved in the accident. Primary coverage means loss would be addressed first by the rental insurance products – before any available and applicable coverage through your own personal auto policy.
Can I add rental insurance after the rental period has already started?
No. Rental insurance must be purchased at the beginning of your rental period. Coverage cannot be added once the rental period has started.
